Abstract
This dissertation has studied commonly held assumptions regarding the employability
of public service employees. This topic has received attention from both society as well
as science due to the increasing importance attached to employability. Our research has
provided new insights and provided a more nuanced perspective on these assumptions,
leading to suggestions for improving employability-enhancing policies. As such, we believe
that the insights and recommendations of this dissertation are valuable for employees
(from a micro perspective), organizations and their managers (a meso perspective) and the
government (with its macro perspective), who all have a key role in enhancing employability.
