Abstract

This volume includes contributions from some of Nigeria's leading women social scientists and activists on women's issues. Themes explored include the understanding and analysis of women's oppression and liberation in an African context; the position of women in pre-colonial Nigerian societies; the penetration of capitalism and its consequences for women, and the construction of new gender roles.
