note = "Funding Information: Since the 1980s the Tanzania Media Women{\textquoteright}s Association has been a force for change using the media to mobilize women{\textquoteright}s organizations for policy and legal change around women{\textquoteright}s rights, working with partners such as Tanzania Gender Network Project and FEMACT, a coalition of lawyers that have pushed through path breaking changes that, for example, make rape a penal offence. Primarily through the work of African NGOs with the support of international NGOs, Female Genital Mutilation is being challenged and the practice outlawed, respecting millions of girls{\textquoteright} and women{\textquoteright}s rights, health and security. The Inter Africa Committee on Traditional Practices Affecting the Health of Women and Children, a network of affiliates in 26 African and in three European countries, has led the gradually successful fight against FGM through public awareness campaigns, training in schools and communities and with traditional and trained medical staff.",
